This DIY handprint Christmas ornament is so simple and you probably already have everything you need to make it! It will only take you a short amount of time to make but you will always have a precious memory for future Christmas’s to come! This Christmas is extra special for me because it is my daughter’s first one! I am so excited! I have been wanting to make a handprint ornament with her and was tempted to buy one of those kits in the store. I am glad that I didn’t and decided to make one by myself. I didn’t realize how easy it was going to be! So skip the store kit and follow this tutorial to make one by yourself!
You probably already have all of the ingredients you will need right in your kitchen for the salt dough.
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water
Steps:
1. Mix all 3 ingredients together in a bowl.
2. Knead the salt dough with your hands for a few minutes until it has thickened up.
3. Roll out the salt dough on a floured surface. My ornament is about 1/4 inch thick.
4. Find a round cup that is big enough to fit the child’s hand. Press the cup into the dough to cut out the circle.
5. Press the child’s hand firmly into the circle. Make sure there is a tiny bit of space between the middle and ring finger (for the ribbon hole).
6. Take a straw and cut out a tiny circle between the middle and ring finger. This will make room to put in a ribbon to hand it with.
7. Bake for 2-3 hours at 200 degrees until it is hard.
8. String the ribbon through the hole and tie a knot.
See how easy that is? Now you will have a special memory of your child’s handprint at Christmas! Check out more of our DIY projects and don’t miss out on our FREE ecookbook, “30 5-Ingredient Dinner Recipes”.
