Coffee Table Makeover with Chalk Paint Recipe

Garbage turned into beauty!  That’s right, I found this coffee table in the garbage can! My husband and I were at a friends house one night and their next door neighbors had this coffee table sitting on the side of the street ready for the garbage men to take the next day. I said, “wait a minute, this thing has some potential!” My poor husband said “here we go again” haha – he is such a trooper! So we got permission to take it and we hauled it off back home.

This coffee table did need some serious work though.  It’s hard to tell, but the top was really badly warped. I think there was a piece of glass there before, so it left quite a bit of damage.

The first thing I did was sand that baby. I sanded it really good to get all the guck off of it. I decided that the pattern on the top wasn’t my favorite and I wanted kind of a rustic feel. So, I went to Home Depot and purchased a large piece of wood.  I had them cut it the dimensions of the table top. Then I wanted them to cut it into five equal pieces vertically.

I wasn’t going to remove the original table top because that would be too much work and the slats of wood need a place to lay on. So, I screwed them in through the bottom, but made sure that the screws didn’t go all the way through to the front of the wood!

I knew I wanted a gray and white color scheme because I just love those colors together, so classy.
