Hey all! I am loving this Christmas season already. This year I decorated a couple days before Thanksgiving and I have absolutely loved it. In previous years I would wait until a couple days after Thanksgiving but now I think I am going to switch over. I always feel like December just flies by so its nice to get everything done and decorated before December even starts. I am basically all done with Christmas shopping as well and that feels SO good!
Okay, so my amazing friend has been decorating Christmas trees for as long as she can remember and she does it professionally! She is an absolute pro at it. Last year when I saw her tree I was just stunned. It was beautiful. So this year I asked if I could learn from her and wow did I learn a lot! She gave me so many helpful tips on how to decorate a Christmas tree like a pro. I just had to share them with you guys.
- Your Tree: Last year I scored on this Christmas Tree at Target when it was on sale. I loved it and it fit my budget so I snagged it. Once you put your tree up if your tree dosent look super full like mine. Go and grab some fake garland. You can find some here. I just cut it into pieces and shoved them in between the layers of branches and wowza does it do wonders!
- My tree is prelit which I absolutely love. One less thing to do. But if it isn’t start by hanging the lights.
- Always start with the biggest decorations. Distribute your big decorations proportionally throughout your tree so it looks balanced and pleasing to the eye. I started with my big bows. She taught me how to make these gigantic bows that I just adore. If I get around to it I’ll post a tutorial on that too. You start with your big things and you work down to the small things.
- I did my biggest ornaments next. Costco has the best deals on big ornaments and ribbon! You dont need to break the bank when decorating your Christmas tree. My friend was really big on using as much of what you have to make it beautiful and then you can add to it over the years. I loved that advice. I had a bunch of little ornaments because usually that is what I put on my tree but she showed me this fun way of bunching them together to create larger ornament pieces. You just take a green pipe cleaner and three bulbs and string the cleaner through the tops and twist it to create a large piece. Then you twist it to a tree branch. I loved the way they turned out.
- She told me its important to have different finishes. Your glittery, shiny, and matte finishes. I am wanting to add a little bit more matte to mine next year. Another tip! You dont want your tree to be top heavy. If you dont have to many decorations then focus more on the front but you need to have some heavy pieces in the back so its not top heavy and leans forward.
- After the ornaments we did my tree picks. You place them all over the tree but evenly. You need a lot of picks. I have about 30 in my tree varying from white, gold, and red. This adds volume to your tree and makes it look larger.
- Then we just add fillers to the open spaces. We had little bows, little snowflakes, and single bulb ornaments. We just kept adding until it look pleasing to the eye. A lot to Christmas tree decorating is stepping back and seeing what it looks like and then readjusting if you need to.
- The tree topper! I have always had a hard time finding the perfect tree topper. Maybe one day I will but I just loved what she showed me to do with my tree until then. We placed a big bow on the top and then stuck big picks behind it. This creates a taller look to the tree. More bang for your buck. She also likes to elevate her tree. I couldn’t do it with mine because my ceilings are high enough but she has big ceilings. Instead of buying a taller more expensive tree she elevates hers on a sturdy dolly. Then covers it with her tree skirt. I will be doing this if we ever move to a house with bigger ceilings because you can see the pretty wrapped presents so much better.
- Get wrapping paper that compliments your tree. It just adds a bit more cuteness if you have wrapping paper that goes with your tree.
I hope you guys liked these tips for how to decorate a Christmas tree like a pro! Let me know if you have any questions! I loved how my tree turned out and I will be using all these tips from now on. I hope you have the merriest Christmas season!
sincerely,
