Coffee Table Makeover with Chalk Paint Recipe

July 20, 2015 By sincerelyjean

I made sure I used my Wooster Brush for painting because of how good of a job it does. You cant find it here. I have used many brushes and this one is by far the best and has lasted the longest! For the gray, I used the color Iron Gate in Behr with my chalk paint recipe, which I also used on my desk makeover here. For the white I used Behr Creamy White, I’ve mentioned this before, but I LOVE this white. Its the perfect shade and goes with everything! I made it into chalk paint as well.

You can find the Plaster of Paris here. I used three coats of paint, letting it dry all the way before doing another coat. After each coat, I used my roller to create that smooth professional finish. I love using these particular ones found here. It makes all the difference.

Then when I was finished, I still was wanting a little more of a rustic feel, so I used some dark wax, I love Martha Stewart vintage dark wax. I use it on a lot of my projects to get that vintage looking feel. You can find the product here. With a rag, I got it wet and just put a little dab of wax on it. I brushed it along the cracks of each wood slat and then right after with a clean rag, wiped it off. I didn’t want it too drastic, just a little touch.

I finished with my favorite top coat, Miwax Polycrylic Protective Finish which you can find here. It really is the best. It is water based so it doesn’t yellow over time and a little goes a long way.  I used about 5 coats. If you know its one of those pieces that will see a lot of wear and tear, like a coffee table, I would recommend putting more coats on then usual.
