DIY Crib Mobile

DIY crib mobile

Hey Sistas, I am trying to put together the babies nursery. My color scheme is black, grey, and white with some natural wood accents. I wanted to put a cute crib mobile over the crib that both matched my colors and was not to expensive. The ones that I liked were pretty pricey so I decided to make my own. It ended up only costing me about $8. Score!

Materials needed:

  • 8 inch embroidery hoop (stained)
  • Cardstock in the colors you want
  • Clear jeweler string
  • Leather fringe
  • Ceiling hook

I first started by staining my embroidery hoop. I have a ruler growth chart that I made (tutorial coming soon) and it is stained golden oak. I took out the inside of the embroidery hoop and stained it with the same golden oak stain. Then with a silhouette I cut out my triangles, I came up with tree different sized triangles that I thought looked good strung together. I used black, white, and grey card stock and I cut about 30 triangles per color. I was going to do seven triangles per string and use six strings.

With my clear jewelry string I used a glue stick and glued together a front and back triangle together on the string. I continued doing that in the pattern that I wanted my triangles and colors in. Once I glued on seven triangles I took my black leather fringe and glued it to the inside of the last triangle. I did this for all six strings.

After I was done I took my hot glue gun and glued the strings to the inside of my embroidery hoop. Once finished I cut four strings for hanging and glued it to the sides as well, I spaced it out evenly so it hung level. The tricky  part was getting it to hang level with my strings. It took a lot of tying and uniting knots until all four strings made the mobil even. I then took my ceiling hook and twisted it into the ceiling. I hung it and I was done!

I am really happy with the turnout. I think it pulls all of the colors that I used for the nursery into a coordinating piece. It was pretty easy to make and super cheap. Enjoy!
