DIY Etched Glass Mug - Fun and easy Father's Day gift! | www.sincerelyjean.com

Hey sistas,

So first of all I just want to say Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful Father’s out there!  I have several special Father figures in my life that have made such a positive impact on my life.  Obviously I have my own father who is the greatest example of selfless service and of having fun!  Anyone who my dad meets is immediately his best friend.  He is my greatest example and hero and I love him more than words can say.  I am definitely a “daddy’s girl”!  I also have my wonderful grandpa on my mom’s side that is so great.  I remember when I was younger that he helped me catch my first fish and forced me to eat a bite when it was cooked!  I was so scared but it wasn’t too bad.  I also have my grandpa on my dad’s side who died before I was born.  His wife, my grandma, died before I was born also.  I have always had a special love for both of them in my heart and I know I will have the chance to meet them someday.  My dad talks about his parents often and he always says they would have loved and spoiled us kids so much.  I also have an “adopted” grandpa who I love dearly.  When my parents moved to Vegas about 30 years ago they had no family close and my “adopted” grandparents took them in and we have been family ever since.  He passed away a few years ago and I miss him so much!    And then finally I have my wonderful husband who is the BEST dad to our daughter!  He loves her so much and they have always had a special bond.  My daughter is a “daddy’s girl” and that is just fine with me because I am one also!  Dads are just the best!

So with Father’s Day coming in less than 2 weeks, it is time to get gifts ready!  Today I am bringing you a super easy and fun craft to make as a gift.  Every dad loves big mugs.  They are great for sodas, soups, or really any liquid!  I know that my dad absolutely loves big mugs so I decided to make him one for Father’s Day.  It says “No. 1 GRANDPA”.  It was so easy to make!  The entire process will take you less than 30 minutes.  Here is my DIY etched glass mug tutorial:

Supplies:

  1. DecoArt Easy Etch (glass etching cream)
  2. DecoArt reusable stick-on stencils (I used Home & Garden Everyday Alphabet and Vintage Numbers.)
  3. Glass mug (I got mine at the dollar store so only paid $1!  You have to love the dollar store!)
  4. Foam brush or palette knife (The instructions said to use a palette knife but I didn’t have one on hand.  The foam brush working fine for me.)DIY Etched Glass Mug - Fun and easy Father's Day gift! | www.sincerelyjean.com

Instructions:

  1. Measure the length of the letters you are using.  The letters I used from the DecoArt Everyday Alphabet pack were about 1 inch wide.  I used 7 letters so that equals 7 inches.  I centered the 7 inches on the mug.  I would have rather had the letters on the side of the mug but 7 inches was just too big so I had to put it in the center of the mug.  I still think it looks good though.
  2. Place your stick-on stencils evenly on the mug.  They are so easy to use and if you put one on crooked they come off so easily.  I had to fix a few of my letters because putting them on evenly the first time is so dang hard! lolDIY Etched Glass Mug - Fun and easy Father's Day gift! | www.sincerelyjean.com
  3. Place a generous amount of the DecoArt Easy Etch onto each letter.  Be very careful to NOT get the product on any other part of the glass.  Luckily the stick-on letter borders had enough space that I didn’t need to use any painters tape.  If you are worried about the product getting the other part of the glass then I would recommend using painters tape to protect that area.DIY Etched Glass Mug - Fun and easy Father's Day gift! | www.sincerelyjean.com
  4. Let the Easy Etch dry for 15 minutes.  Take your project over the the sink and remove your stick-on letters and lightly wash them with cold water.  One they are dry you can use them again for another project!  Another reason why I love these reusable stick-on’s!  I will for sure be using more of them for future projects!
  5. When the letters are all removed, lightly rinse off the excess product from the glass.  You should be able to see your etch!  How cool is this product?  I just love it!
