I really love Christmas time. This year, my husband and I are not sure what we are doing for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. A lot of our family members will be out of town. This is probably a great year to start making some of our own traditions!
Even though I am really busy with work and family events during this December, I love making time for Christmas crafts! This craft has two of my favorite things: Mason Jars and glitter 🙂
Snow globes are timeless and I have always loved shaking them around and watching the snow or glitter drop on the cute figurines. By the way – did you know that snow globes have been around for about 136 years?? I thought that was pretty cool.
For one of my Christmas crafts this year, I decided to make a homemade snow globe, and it was super easy. I already had a mason jar, so I spent about $10 on all of the other supplies. Here is what I used:
SUPPLIES:
– Mason Jar, can buy HERE
– Krazy Glue, HERE
– Liquid Glycerin, HERE
– Glitter or fake snow, HERE or HERE
– Figurines, HERE
STEPS:
1. Find figurines that you would like to use. I went to the Christmas section at Walmart and they had a bunch of small figurines. I chose a pine tree and a snowman. My figurines are about 2″ and 3″ tall.
2. Use the krazy glue to secure the figurines to the mason jar lid. You will glue them to the side that faces the inside of the mason jar. Let this dry completely. My mason jar is about 5″ tall. (12 oz)
3. Add the water to the jar, about 3/4 of the way full. Remember that you still need room for the figurines!
4. Add about a 1/2 teaspoon of liquid glycerin. You can also use light corn syrup.
5. Add glitter – use as little or as much glitter as you want. I used about 2 teaspoons of glitter. You can also use fake snow for this step instead of glitter.
6. Screw the lid onto the mason jar very tightly so that water does not leak.
7. Shake, shake, shake and watch it snow 🙂
PS….You can also do this craft without any falling glitter/snow. Just leave the mason jar empty after you attach your figurines. This becomes a super cute decoration as well!
