Thank you Perdue® for sponsoring this post.
Do your littles ever ask you where your food comes from? Mine do, and it has had me thinking a lot about this lately. Where is my food coming from? How is it being handled before it gets into my kitchen and eaten by my family?
Have you heard of the company Perdue®? I came across their business motto and I just love it and wanted to share it with you. Perdue Foods’ Animal Care Commitment is something that I admire. They believe in animal welfare, striving to use the best farming practices to ensure a higher quality of living for the animals.
We eat a lot of chicken in our house. It’s one of our favorite meats and we make some great meals out of our poultry. Perdue is truly working to be more forward-thinking in raising chickens for food and creating a set of best practices that consumers can feel good about.
In 2016 Perdue put together a revolutionary plan for there Perdue Commitment for Animal Care. There are 4 parts to this plan which is more than most companies’ commitments. Part 1: Our Chickens’ Needs and Wants; Part 2: Farmer Relationships; Part 3: Openness, Transparency and Trust; and lastly Part 4: A Journey of Continuous Improvement. Can I just point out how I really like how they care about the people who care for and tend to these animals? I think it’s great!
When I explain to my boys where our chickens come from I like knowing that I can say that these chickens are well taken care of. That someone was watching over them just like how I watch over you.
Perdue charts its animal care progress against a globally accepted standard for animal husbandry. They use The Five Freedoms as a guide: 1. Freedom from hunger and thirst, 2. Freedom from discomfort, 3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease, 4. Freedom to express normal behaviors, and 5. Freedom from fear and distress. I like knowing that I can be mindful of these freedoms when I go to make my food choices.
This company obviously shows they care about the welfare of their animals. I am glad I was able to share their message with you and am grateful for their Animal Care Commitment.
sincerely,
