How to Style a Blanket Cape

December 4, 2015 By Tami

3 Ways to wear a blanket cape. ruana, poncho, ruana, style

The blanket cape is a super cute trend for cold weather. It keeps you warm and it is oh so versatile! When you have to leave your cozy warm bed and get dressed for the day, this piece is here for you. (When you are searching for this product, keep in mind that it possibly could be called by these other names: poncho, wrap, or ruana.)

Last year Burberry actually had a finale walk led by Cara Delevingne that showcased models marching down the runway in blanket capes. Theirs was selling for about $1,400 each, but don’t worry, I am linking you to some very affordable pieces in this post 😉

This comfortable piece has asymmetrical hemlines and you can find them in so many different colors and patterns. You will see me wearing the cape in my photos with tights, but you can also pull off the look with jeans. Here are a few ways to style this cape trend:

1. Wear over a jean jacket

Jean jackets are adorable and wearing a cape on top of the jacket adds a fabulous ‘pop’ to the look.

2. Wrap with a belt

A skinny belt or thick belt will both look great. Pick a belt color that goes with the cape, or one that adds a bit of color.

3. Wear it loose

Pull on a blanket cape over a tank, tee, or even a fitted dress.
