Being pregnant is truly amazing. When I think about a life being created inside my own body and how perfect the process is, it really is heaven sent. I am always grateful through each one of my pregnancies that I have the opportunity to be able to carry my own child and experience growing a baby inside of me. But that doesn’t mean it is easy! I try not to complain to much because I now I am so lucky for this opportunity but man is it hard. Especially for me during that first trimester. My morning sickness lasted about 17 weeks this time. Can I ask why it is even called MORNING sickness in the first place? Because it is all day everyday for me! And I know some people have it through out their whole pregnancy and bless their hearts. One thing I have a hard time with is when I am feeling super sick and some sweet lady with every bit of good intention tells me that I just have that beautiful pregnancy glow. “I didn’t know that puking all the time and not sleeping came with a beautiful glow” haha but Thank You! A couple of different times I have read blogs where pregnant women have still kept up their 2 hour workout routine every day through out their whole pregnancy. Well not me over here! Especially during my first trimester. That is always that hardest for me. Although I do agree that exercising regularly is important for the health of you and your baby, sometimes it is hard to get to the gym. Now that I am over the hump of morning sickness I can workout a lot more but at first it was tough! Anyways now that I am off my soap box I can say that even though you can’t get rid of morning sickness with the snap of your fingers today I have compiled a list of what things helped me through mine. These might not all work for you and they are just my opinion but they have definitely made a difference in helping me get through my morning sickness.
- Pregnancy Pillow: This was also sent from heaven! With my first baby I didn’t have one because I didn’t want to spend that money but now that I have one I don’t know what I was thinking! It’s like your wrapped up in a cloud. I love that the certain pillow I bought goes through your legs and under you stomach for support. It gets so uncomfortable when lying on your side the whole time the pillow really helps give your stomach some extra needed padding underneath. This pillow will accommodate you through your whole pregnancy too. You can find the one that I purchased here. Leachco Snoogle Total Body Pillow – Gray.
- Crockpot: At night time is when I feel the most sick. Weird huh? Morning are actually the best time of day for me. But the last thing I want to do is make dinner when Im feeling so sick. The crockpot has been a game changer right now, I just stick dinner in during the morning and then by 5 it’s ready. It is very convenient and I’m so grateful for the inventions of crockpots!
- Paper Plates: I know this is a weird one but it is life changing let me tell ya. I have never used paper plated while my husband and I have been married. We have always just done the dishes. But when dishes kept piling higher and higher in our sink and just the look of them wanted to make me vomit, right then we took a Costco trip. I bought one of those 500 stack of paper plates and it has been the BEST things. The dishes have been such less of a hassle and so much of an easier clean up.
- Cute Stretchy Leggings: I swear my belly is showing twice as fast as it was in my first pregnancy. I heard this happens with your second baby but I still thought there might have been twins in there lol. My legging have been a life saver. The reason I really like leggings is that they can still be cute and fashionable. Of course I could opt to baggy sweats every day and sometimes I do where those but wearing cute leggings are both comfortable to me and there a little more flattering. Of course the main thing is that they fit my growing belly.
- Water: Staying hydrated has helped me so much. It helps me not get as bad headaches, it makes me feel healthier when I’m already feeling icky, and it helps me feel less bloated. All in all I think drinking enough water is a key component in my pregnancy. I always try and carry a water bottle around with me wherever I go. I also keep one on my nightstand. Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated will prepare your body for nursing when the baby comes as well.
- Sleep: All I wanted to do was sleep and its all I still want to do but it is hard to find the time. While chasing around a toddler and getting everything else done the last thing on my to do list was sleep. But I decided to turn that thinking around and put sleep at almost the top of my list. I made a priority to sleep when it was nap time. When my son went to bed at 7:30 so did I. The house was a little more neglected and I wasn’t able to get everything done in a day but it was what my body and my baby needed. And really that is what is most important.
- Prenantal Vitamins with DHA: With my first pregnancy I knew that I should be taking prenatal vitamins but I had never even heard of DHA. I asked my doctor about it and he recommend I start taking ones with DHA. They are suppose to helps give specific nutrients and vitamins that your baby needs. I really like the ones that I bought because it dosent make me queasy and its a liquid soft gel so I just swallow them. With my first and second pregnacy I started taking prenatal vitamins about 6 months prior to getting pregnant so my body was well prepared for the baby. Here are the prenatal vitamins that I like Nature Made PrenatalMulti + DHA 200 Mg Softgels, Value Size, 60 + 30 Liquid softgels. Consult with doctor before taking.
- Eat Small Meals Often: This can be really hard at times because that last thing you want to do is eat. I really had no appetite even when I was hungry. But what helped me and sometimes I forced it down was eating small portions often. Try to eat things that sound good to you but are also healthy. What was hard for me was eating protein, it really helps with feeling sick but it was sometimes difficult for me to have a desire to eat it, especially meat. I tried to eat string cheese, peanut butter, and eggs for my protein. Try having saltine crackers by your bed and in your purse. Right when you wake up try and eat at a couple to get something in your stomach and if your out and about and you start feeling queasy try snacking on a few.
All in all no matter what you do morning sickness it tough but oh so worth it at the end when you finally get to hold your little bundle! There’s a light at the end of the tunnel ladies. Aren’t we so blessed to be able to do this magical thing of creating life? We hope this helps you in any way.
Sincerely,
Patti Jean
