Oreo Coal Marshmallow Treats

This week, my family had our Christmas party.  We celebrated early since alot of the family members will be out of town for Christmas.  The best part was watching my niece and nephew open their gifts.  They are still very young, so I think playing in the wrapping paper was their favorite part 🙂

I wanted to bring dessert to the holiday party, so I made lumps of coal for all of the naughty people! Just kidding, everyone in my family is probably on the nice list. But they loved this simple and delicious recipe!

Has someone you know been naughty this year? lol Make them these delicious oreo coal marshmallow treats. It is only three ingredients and requires no baking! All you need is a package of oreos, a package of marshmallows, and butter. See the recipe card below:

Ingredients
  1. 16oz package of oreos
  2. 5 cups marshmallow
  3. 4 tbls butter
Instructions
  1. Crush oreos (I have a ninja blender, so I put the entire package of oreos in and blended it).
  2. In a large microwave safe bowl, heat the marshmallows and butter in microwave for about 90 seconds.
  3. Add crushed oreos and stir (This part can get a little sticky/messy)
  4. Roll them into small "lumps of coal" (If you put butter on your hands, it will help the marshmallows stick to stick to your fingers as much)

By the way, how did that coal rumor get started anyways? One of the stories is that in 19th century England, pans of hot coals would be kept under the bed to generate heat during cold nights. The poor would get lumps of coal if they were lucky. Another story is that in Holland in the 16th century, children would put their clogs by the fireplace before Christmas. When a child was bad they got a lump of coal. In Italy, it is believed that ‘Befana’ gives coal to naughty children along her journey to find the Christ child. Now you know!
