Hey sistas! So I know you all know someone who is a “mommy blogger”. Today I am going to give you several reasons why you should become one also! Have you ever considered starting your own blog? I have talked to multiple women who have a desire to start a blog but don’t know how or are scared to start one. I feel like I am always encouraging my friends to start their own blog because I love blogging so much. I am what you would call a “mommy blogger”. Before I had my daughter I completed a bachelor’s degree and had a corporate career in finance and recruiting. I loved my career but I always knew I would stay home when my first child came. My sisters and I started our blog a few months before I had my daughter. You can read all about our experience starting our blog HERE. In the past I never really considered myself an entrepreneur. The thought of it actually scared me! But now that I actually am an entrepreneur I love it and my only regret is not starting sooner! It feels great to be doing something that you love while setting your own hours, gaining new skills, and making money! The title of this post is “mommy blogger” but most of these reasons can apply to anyone!
Before we get started, if you want more info on starting and monetizing your own blog, read our “How to Start a Blog in 5 Steps” and “5 Ways to Make Money Blogging” posts.
Here are 11 reasons why you should become a “mommy blogger”.
1.Blogging helps you make time for yourself.
As you can tell from our about page, my sisters and I really care about women making time for themselves. We believe that it will in turn help you be a better mother and wife. Running your own blog will require time and focus. It might sound crazy but I actually love staying up until like 2 or 3 in the morning working on my blog. It is the only time in my day where I can work with no interruptions. I really enjoy being able to do something for myself even if I have to stay up late.
2.You will develop business skills.
You will gain skills in writing, web development, social media, email, graphic design, photography, and more! Don’t let all of these things scare you! You will learn as you go and just take everything one step at a time. My sisters and I have had to teach ourselves these skills. There are tons of tutorials out there to help you in whatever you need to learn! There are also a ton of blogging Facebook groups where people can post questions and help each other.
3.You will become an entrepreneur.
Like I talked about earlier, becoming a blogger means becoming an entrepreneur! Don’t let this scare you or hold you back. It actually feels great to work for yourself and set your own deadlines and goals. I think you will like it more than you think! It feels great to see something that you have worked so hard on be successful.
4.You will have many opportunities to network.
My sisters and I have had the pleasure of meeting some absolutely amazing women through blogging! These are women we would have never met if we didn’t put ourselves out there first. We now have a pretty large network of blogging friends that we work with often. These women are so talented and so inspiring. We absolutely love working with other women bloggers who are hard-working and truly care about what they do. They inspire us to try a little harder each day! Networking is one of my favorite things about blogging.
5.You can make money!
Yes, it is true that you can make money blogging. There are actually many bloggers who make a full-time income and support their families. There are several ways to make money blogging! You can make money from ads on your website, affiliate sales, sponsored posts, contributing to other blogs, selling your own products, and more. There are a ton of companies that want to work with bloggers! They understand that bloggers are influencers and that their readers trust their opinions. There are companies out there who match bloggers and companies together. They are called influencer agencies. If you already have your own side business, blogging can be a great way to promote your products.
6.You can get free products!
Like I talked about in #5, there are a ton of companies that want to work with bloggers. They want you to test their products and tell your readers about them. My sisters and I have been able to try many products and tell our readers about our experience and about the company. It is actually a lot of fun!
7.Blogging helps you focus on something other than your kids.
Obviously as a mother you absolutely love and adore your children. That is great but I think it is healthy to have hobbies and things to focus on other than your children. Blogging can be a great mental break from the day-to-day chores of motherhood!
8.Blogging gives you a creative outlet.
I believe that all women are creators. Every women has something to offer this world. Blogging can be your outlet for your creativity. I personally love doing crafts and I get to share my ideas and creations with our readers. You can blog about whatever you want to! I would recommend not having your blog be too broad. I would recommend 1-3 main topics so that you can stay focused. What are you an expert on? What are you the “go-to” person for? What do you absolutely love doing? Let you blog be a natural extension of you.
9.Blogging with give you an opportunity to write.
Whether you write a novel blog post or just a few simple paragraphs, it is nice to write down your thoughts. You may not think that others care about what you think, but they do! Whether you are writing about your favorite recipe or writing about a serious life experience, people care! Be the person that inspires and teaches them! You may have the world’s best fudge recipe and if you don’t share it, who will? Just remember that what you have to say does matter and people will enjoy learning about you!
10.You will gain photography skills.
This is a skill that would benefit anyone! I never really cared about photography before blogging but now I have my own professional camera and lenses and I love it! I am still working on my skills but I have made a lot of progress! I have also learned how to edit photos. If photography is really not something that you want to do, you can always use stock photos or hire a photographer. There are tons of free or very inexpensive stock photos out there for you to use! In fact, the photo for this post is a stock photo I purchased for only $1. Make sure you have at least 1 photo for every blog post so that you can pin it to Pinterest! (Pinterest is actually our largest source of traffic to our blog. If you want to learn more about how to drive traffic to your blog through Pinterest, read our post HERE.)
11.You get to attend blog conferences.
There are many blog conferences that you can attend. Blog conferences are so much fun and a great way to meet other bloggers and develop your skills. My sisters and I attended our first conference back in February and we had a blast and met so many amazing ladies! We are definitely planning to attend more conferences in the future! Tami is actually going to be posting about our blog conference experience soon so stay posted!
