Hey there! Today we bring you a fast and simple way to decorate your mantle for fall. When October hit I was trying to decide what I wanted to put on my mantle in the dining room. I didn’t want to spend very much money but at the same time I wanted my home to be cute and festive.

I decided to make the word fall spelled out on canvas blocks. I had most of the materials already and its super easy to do.

Items needed:

  • 4 canvas blocks 4 x 4
  • Mod Podge
  • 4 different kinds of cute fall paper
  • Stencils of FALL made out of printer paper
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Ink pad and sponge

I first Painted all the sides and some of the front of my canvas’s with black acrylic paint. I then cut my fall paper into 4 x 4 and with a styrofoam brush I put Mod Podge on the front of my canvas and laid down the paper. I made sure it was very smooth with no bubbles.

While drying I prepared my stencils by just printing F. A. L. L. on a separate piece of paper each. The size of your letters and font are your own preference. I then cut my stencils out and placed them on top of the canvas’s . Very carefully paint your letters with black acrylic paint. Let dry completely.

Once dry I took my styrofoam brush again and painted the whole top surface with Mod Podge. It will look like you have creamy paint all over your blocks and that you just ruined them!  But don’t worry it dries clear.

Once it all the way dry again. I took my ink pad and sponge and went around all the edges and dabbed it until I got the look I was going for. It helps give it that fall rustic feel and also help hide and imperfections. I ended up wrapping the F with some burlap to give it an extra pop.

Then your done! I dressed it up with some fake leave from the dollar store and some brown candle sticks that we got for our wedding. You could always find candle sticks from your nearest thrift store and spray paint them brown as well. I got the mirrors from home goods.

Enjoy your cute Fall Mantel!
