Most of you don’t know this but my husband is in Dental School. It is a four-year-long program and we have about a year in a half left. We can’t wait to graduate! I’m not gonna lie though, being a dental school wife can definitely have its challenges, especially with two babies at home. My husband is so great though at managing his time at home while still balancing school, I am so grateful for him!
As a family we have learned a lot through out school, especially about teeth! And how to keep them healthy. One of the things that has really stuck out to me while my husband has been going to school was that I really take my teeth for granted. I have learned that you only get one set of permanent teeth, so I’d better take good care of them.
The American Dental Association has some great guidelines that as a family we try to achieve. They are simple to do but make so much difference for the health of your teeth. We brush our teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. We try to look for products with the ADA Seal of Acceptance. We clean in-between our teeth daily, and we try and see our dentist regularly. Soon that will be my husband haha.
People have asked us about how we get our boys to brush their teeth. Well for the most part we do it for them, but we like to make it fun as well. We have a printable hanging up in the bathroom and every time they brush their teeth they get to place a checkmark next to it. If they go a week without missing a day, then they get pick something out of our ‘fun’ jar at home. I feel like this helps them create healthy habits because they remember and get excited to brush their teeth.
With the holidays coming up you know there will be sweets after sweets offered to you. The ADA suggest that moderation is key during a time of a lot of sweets – limit your sugar and try to eat a healthy diet. This will be sometimes challenging for me, but I am going to try!
